The Opposite House - Beijing

The Opposite House in Beijing takes it's name from the guest house which sits on the opposite side of a traditional courtyard style home. The name also directs their design vision which is a mix of the old and new; a contrast between the modern and traditional Chinese culture. This vision was led by architect Kengo Kuma from Japan and Shanghai-based designers Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu. With rooms at list prices of $700 and up, The Opposite House comes in at the very top end of the Beijing hotel market.

This contrast, presented in both the visual, private and public space, lends itself to a sound with the release of oppositehouse Vol 1, a CD of 10 tracks by some of China's young and talented musicians. This CD was specially created for guests and unfortunately not for wider release.
The 10 artists come from different musical backgrounds, but share a common ground of steering away from the mainstream. This album successfully merges China's modern bohemian spirit with traditional Chinese musical instruments, capturing the inspirations of the country's young generation of musicians.

With it's 70s-retro look greenish-glass on the outside, and it's stunning public and private places on the inside, The Opposite House is a beautiful and first rate hotel experience when in Beijing.
The Opposite House, Beijing, is managed by recently formed Swire Hotels. Swire Hotels has been created to manage urban hotels in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the United Kingdom, providing a luxury experience for travellers who seek out and have the ability to pay for individuality, style and personalised service.
