Traffic in Frenetic HCMC, Vietnam

Somehow from the chaos came order. It looks almost choreographed and somehow works. Driving a scooter in HCMC is some of the most exciting riding you will ever have.

Everyone who has visited Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam knows part of the magic (love it or hate it) is in the traffic. Ever since I first set foot in HCMC I have been captivated by the cities energy. Saigon is a city on the move unlike anything I have experienced before which I wanted to capture and share.

Bangkok - City of Angels

Thinking of Bangkok today I am reminded about how much I miss visiting the Chatuchak weekend market. Part 1 of a series, Bangkok - City of Angels by Dirk Fischer is a nice taste of the atmosphere there (without the heat).

Taipei Timelapse

Taipei and timelapse, I still enjoy both. Shot by David Francis.

The best street food in Beijing

Chinese New Year provides Beijing resident Sarah Keenlyside with the opportunity to sample the tastiest - and strangest - street snacks from all over the country. A wonderful short segment from The Guardian

One Month In Tokyo

Eric Bates spent the month of July, 2010 working as an animator at Shirogumi VFX in Tokyo, had a great time living and working in Tokyo, and wanted to share his experience. I'm glad he did. Lovely.

Toy Thailand

A tilt-shift video by Joerg Daiber. Well done. With the exception of the boats in Bangkok I would prefer the video without the tilt-shift effect. Watch full screen with audio off.

Hansar Bangkok

Hansar Bangkok

It feels like I haven't travelled in ages. Here's my latest Bangkok stay which I am considering for the new year.

A timely press release announcing the recently launched Hansar Bangkok comes as I contemplate my excursions for the new year. Situated smack in the middle of an upper crust neighbourhood on Rajdamri Road, near shopping areas and the greenery of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, Hansar is a great choice for those visiting Bangkok on business or the leisure traveller who doesn't want to venture too far outside their comfort zone.

Hansar Bangkok appears to be trying to offer a boutique hotel experience with well designed and appointed large suites. Though not appealing to me personally, it looks interesting and sampling their French Provençal menu might be a pleasant if odd change.

As a counterpoint is Thomas L. Friedman's Their Moon Shot and Ours and Too Many Hamburgers?

Pattaya tries to clean up

Pattaya

Good luck. A beautiful beach marred by broken beer bottles, needles and endless lines of prostitutes, touts and the worst kind of tourists. Slightly interesting place to visit for a night but not a place I could ever imagine enjoying with my family.

Somewhere in the world there may be a city with a more seedy reputation, a place more devoted to the sex industry and more notorious as a haven for criminals on the lam. But probably not.

When dusk comes to this beach resort, a sea of pink neon bulbs casts a pale glow onto the thickly made-up faces of thousands of women (and some men) who sit on bar stools waiting for their patrons.

If Las Vegas is Sin City, Pattaya is a bear hug from Lucifer himself.

... there are signs of change.
