The Day Pack
I'm on the hunt for a smaller messenger for my daily travellers. I no longer carry a laptop so a large size messenger seems bait overkill. The Dap Pack looks to fit the bill but it smallish look expertly hides a rathe capacious interior. On the other end of the style spectrum is Tom Bihn's expertly engineered Ristretto which like above is locally made and as such allows you to contect with the people who make the product you buy. An experience all to rare in this massive factory floors of people who though skilled are completely disconnected from the product they make.
The Day Pack was made to easily carry the day's necessities without the bulk of a bag sized for everything. The outer fabric is gray cotton canvas, with a blue/white variegated denim base. Lined with lightweight denim. You can carry the Day Pack at your side, with the leather handle, or wear it on your shoulder or cross your body with the adjustable, salvaged leather strap. The main opening fastens with 2 snaps and the pouch pocket has a snap as well. The bag has been stitched throughout with heavy duty, 100% cotton thread.
Sold out at the moment but there are other you can chose from.
R&T Waxed Canvas Field Bag
A beautiful original find. The Field Bag is handmade by Natasha Durham
in Maine, all are one of a kind and built to last. Bags like this are far nicer the their mass produced brethren or their overpriced luxury brand cousins. The bag features a rather shoulder strap with solid antique brass hardware, 14oz waxed canvas outer, leather detailing, somewhat unfortunate English knob closures and a bunch of pockets for items like your iPhone and passport. My only nitpick is that that strap is way to short and should be adjustable.

I've been staring at this bag all week; the colours, shape the look of the materials are very appealing. I know nothing more about this messenger but wanted to share nonetheless.

Ralph Lauren Military Large Messenger
Ralph Lauren takes it's inspiration from vintage army gear in their latest line of bags, including the Military Large Messenger pictured above. Made with distressed canvas, antiqued metal hardware and 'retro-military' printing this large bag is spacious enough to safely carry your laptop and related gear. The bag looks good and brings to the mass market the look that has been persuasive in small shops for ages.
Unique handmade bags from repurposed materials are preferred but these will be a great deal in a couple of years when they hit the outlets and markets.

Strappy Macbook Case
Very rich looking leather case handmade with strips of sturdy leather. The interior has soft felt pocket lining. I really like these unique efforts and could spend my afternoons browsing markets, in this case Etsy, in search of them. Definitely a conversation starter.
BiCi Concepts XL Messenger Bag
LA based BiCi Concepts make handmade custom bags and accessories for bike riding and non-biking riding customer alike. The materials they use look to be of the utmost quality and the hardware quite suffice (I'm used to overkill like ykk #10 zippers on a small bag). While there are a number of big shops creating custom bags it's nice to support smaller companies by purchasing their products whenever possible. Hard to believe that it's been two years since I last featured fine work from the moop store. It looks like her craft continues to improve. This, or the, Messenger is handmade of provincial corded canvas with charcoal cordura lining. The flap hides two deep pockets. The interior is rather capacious and includes 2 pencil slips, 2 pouch pockets, 1 large zipper pocket and 2 d-rings for your keys. A very versatile unique bag.

Motil Commuter Messenger Bag
I love the shoulder strap and the herringbone weave on this iteration of the classic messenger bag. The Motil Commuter, made from recycled materials, has the style, design, and water repellency that this a great all around bag for office and bike alike. Features include an adjustable and padded shoulder strap made from recycled wool, grab handle, and self-fabric closure loops. It's a large bag with one mesh pocket under flap secures with zip closure, an internal organization pocket with security zip pocket, pen sleeves and electronics pocket. The padded laptop pocket is good for 17" laptops. Looks great.
SealLine Urban Shoulder Bag
The SealLine Urban Shoulder Bag features a breathable, waterproof back panel and tough, PVC-free coated polyester and scrim-reinforced urethane that should hold up to extensive use. The QuickClip closure allows for easy one-handed fastening/unfastening without the noise associated with velcro. Smart styling. This bag from Sealline looks like a perfect all-weather commuter bag but watch the interior fabric as it's durability doesn't appear to match the exterior materials.
